Pharmacy & Prescription FAQs
Here are some common questions about pharmacy services at West Niagara Animal Hospital.
Can I refill my pet’s prescription through the clinic?
Yes. Prescription refills can be requested through our team or online using your pet's PetDesk profile. Please allow adequate time for processing, especially for long-term medications or compounded medication that need to be ordered from the compounding pharmacy. We want to ensure there are no lapses in your pet's health treatment. We ask a minimum of 48-72 hours to process your refill request. The veterinarian needs to review your pet's medical history when filling or approving any medication prescriptions. This takes time in their schedule, and they receive many requests daily. This is why we ask that refills are requested with advance notice to give each patient the most thorough review of their medical history. Our priority is always your pet's health and safety.
Are prescription diets really necessary?
For some pets, yes. Prescription diets are formulated to support treatment and facilitate sustained wellness for specific medical conditions. Prescription diets are developed with years of scientific research by veterinarians, veterinary nutritionists, and medical experts included in their creation. Clinical studies to support their efficacy in treating pets medical concerns and their safety standards allows us to confidently support your pet's needs with nutrition as a tool.
What if my pet refuses to take medication?
We’re happy to discuss tips, alternative formulations, or compounded options that may make medication easier to administer.
